Brianna Perrault’s Story
At 9 months, Brianna was diagnosed with a chromosome anomaly. As she continued to develop, it was evident she was globally delayed in all areas. We started her in an early intervention program and it was clear Brianna had an understanding of language without the capacity to speak words. By age 3, it became difficult to keep up with her ability to communicate using a system of pictures, gestures, and inaudible sounds.
After our first meeting with an augmentative specialist, we were excited about the possibilities for our daughter. Brianna had an augmentative device prior to starting her preschool program. We initially programmed the device adding pages upon pages of icons - trying to anticipate her needs, along with lessons from school. It quickly became an ineffective maze that was hard to program, access, and maintain.
Minspeak provided a perfect solution. It did not take Brianna long to fully utilize the program which required only a minimal amount of time to modify and personalize for her use. Her speech therapy focused on teaching instead of programming! Today, her communication skills are amazing.
As parents, we are forever grateful to Minspeak for opening a future of possibilities for our daughter, Brianna. We would have never known what an engaging personality and witty sense of humor she has without her communication system.
